April 7, 1944 Dear Mother, I still haven't had a letter from you written since you had heard from me over here. Maybe the next few days will bring one. I wish I knew how fast my letters were arriving, as if you haven't heard yet, I'd have done well to cable. Involved, I see as I read it over. Did I tell you that I almost saw the Crolys [friends living at Hunters Quay on Firth of Clyde] on my birthday? I was sorry I wasn't free to roam around more then. Yesterday the five of us had a most delightful trip. We went by bus, and the weather and scenery were both ideal. This was one of the places I'd never even thought of coming, and it is fresh and not at all tourist-worn. We had about a two hour ride and then spent the afternoon wandering around
