July 23, 1945 Dear Dave, Ever since recieving the first Scuttlebutt I've planned writing and thanking you, but you know how those things go, Now that I've been transferred from, Deep In the Heart of ___, back to Gods Country I'm forced to give you my new address. I'd missed seeing Iowa for two summer and had almost forgotten just how things grow there and could hardly believe my eyes after bouncing across Texas, Okla., Kans. & Mo. to find the highways so straight & smooth and every thing so green even through the farmers say it's been a poor season. Boy, did I receive a surprise when I hit this field. Since I've been commissioned I've been on 28 fields and this is the first one where I reported in the conventional peace time manner and that's going up to meet the Old Man. On top of that I signed in at 1.30 P.M. as a bombadier and by 3.00 P.M. they had me assigned
