May 11 1918 Dear Mother Tomorrow is mothers day and our officers are allowing us an uncensored letter to our mothers so I am sitting on the back step of the Post de Command and visiting with you for a while. We are still in the trenches have had no rest for a long time but are expecting one soon. We have a fine bunch of officers now Leiut Riley is an Irish lawyer from St Louis and he sure is fine, he is a good soldier understands his business and has a fine sense of humor you could sit and listed to him all day and when you do something wrong you sure get it in the neck He is a good catholic too and two weeks ago tomorrow He and I were the only ones who went
