until the war is over so they have had a detail cleaning up around here for the last 3 or four days and it is getting pretty nice here the French pay absolutely no attention to cleanliness or sanitation so they are all moved out now and the engineers are going after things right so we are going to have a model little village to live in this summer we have shower baths right in the town and no end of furniture left by the refugees so we can have almost anything we want in the line of mirrors tables chairs and beds and all kinds of clothing everything from an actress costume to the old red breeches of the French soldiers before the revolution. Books and pictures too and stationary galore but it has all been either broken by shells or ruined by rain and sun. In a window of one house you
