Naha Okinawa 14 September 1945 Dear Dave: Just received my first two copies of Scuttlebutt and want you to know I enjoyed them immensely. I'm always glad to know what is going on in the old home city and how the other servicemen and women are progressing. The most notable thing in Okinawa is the unusual mud that abounds in this rainy climate. It's different than Iowa mud in several respects. The color is much lighter, the main constituent is clay, and worse of all is the dreadful tenacity of the stuff. Our men go about in pairs during the rainy season to insure rescue from the quicksand - like mire. We haven't lost a man yet. My work consists of fighting these erroneously
