UNITED STATES NAVY 16 September 1945 Dear Mr. Elder, Well- here I am again! This time it's Saipan, and I expect to stay here about six months. I thought I'd never get here. We left Honolulu on the 10th and arrived here in time for breakfast on the 16th. We should have made it in about 24 hours. Our first stop out of Honolulu was Johnson Is. We landed there and fueled up and then took off for Majuro. On the way one of our engines developed into serious trouble, namely no oil pressure. We made Majuro allright, but had to install a new engine. While breaking in the newly installed engine we had a little prop trouble. Finally they decided our plane was in good enough shape to get us here which it did. If we had flown our own plane out here instead of flying with N.A.T.S. we would have never got into trouble. Oh well we had a nice little vacation at Majuro. We had nothing to do all day long except eat coconuts, sleep and swim. In the evenings when it wasn't to rainy we attended the movies at the open air theater. Some life, eh? As far as we know our work here will consist of flying mail and other freight between here and Tokyo. Not very exciting since the
