Jan 31st got a pass & went to Washington & through the Capitol in the house of representatives & the Senate Chamber Smithville N.C. Feb 18th very heavy cannonading up the river at Ft. Anderson. after dark we could see the flash of the guns " 19th report says our troops have taken the fort we can hear cannonading much farther off believe it to be at Wilmington, we hear that Sherman is there
