Apr 16th about 250, of our camp start to march to our regts, all that had guns were not allowed to go so I threw mine away, we marched out two miles on the Goldsboro road & go into camp with orders to march at six next morning in the night we hear that Jeff Davis & cabinet are captured & that Johnson had surrendered to Sherman also Forrest, to Thomas 17th revilee at 4.30 A.M. march at 6.30. march 18 miles, roads good
