June 25, 1944 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: Had another busy spell so I missed a couple of days but there hasnt been any news anyhow. Its been real hot the past few days the old sun is bearing down but I havent minded it too much. Would sure make that old Iowa corn shoot up and I guess thats what it needs this year. Some more of my old gang were over to see us a few nights ago but I missed them, darn it. I was at the movies that evening but they will come again one of these days or will go over to their camp. It is only a few miles and there are often cars or trucks going that way. Thats one good thing about the G.I.'s they will always pick up a guy as long as there is room to hang on. My nose is having a spell of burning and peeling off but I have some Noxema & Camphor Ice so I can dope it up. These little mechanics caps aren't much protection from the sun especially when we turn the bills up and thats what everyone does. One of the boys in our group is a quite an artist and he is painting cartoons on the walls of our new service club. There are fellows in the outfit and all sorts of army characters etc. some of them are really very good. Guess Im getting this paper kind of dirty thought my hands were clean but I reckon not. Should have used a little more elbow grease along with the soap when I washed. We certainly have a fine shower bath rigged up, our electrician is the inventor. It has a
