Saving...
July 4, 1944 Dear Dad & Mom: I'll write a bit as I have a moment to myself just now. Sorry to have missed a few days but I've just been swamped. It's a miserable day, hot winds blowing and how the dust is rolling and you know how I hate that. This paper is bouncing around on my knees and making it hard to write. Just finished making up my laundry and have to get it in before five o'clock or it wont go out. Can get our P.X. rations today also, they should have cold Coca-Cola and that will go pretty good.--- Had to quit and go to chow, when chow time comes a fellow wants to be on his toes as you miss out. As it is theres always a long line to sweat out. Had fresh beef for supper and ice cream both of which are a treat. The Italians are still harvesting wheat it surely is a slow process the way they do it and requires a lot of hand labor but they keep plugging away at it and will be finished some day perhaps. They have the biggest grasshoppers over here Ive ever seen almost as big as the lizards and I presume they furnish them a lot of meals. This doesnt seem much like the fourth to me guess I wont go to a rodeo, carnival or picnic this year, dont feel quite up to it. Think I will next year tho. Had a little from Uncle Raymond yesterday he seems to have guessed where I am located. Dont know how, for Ive never written them anything about it.
