Saving...
July 9,1944 Italy Dear Dad + Mom + Grandmother: Got two V-mails from you today, we are luckier than you at home for we have Sunday mail call same as any other day. It's very hot today but this afternoon I have kind of a lull in my work and am taking it easy. Wish I had a big pitcher full of ice tea to cool off with, could really use a frigidaire. The locusts are more than buzzing around here reminds me of home and the old six weeks till frost saying. Dont think that means anything over here for they've been buzzing for several weeks now. Never saw one before today but I caught one and they are really wierd looking. I cut my coveralls in half a couple of days ago as I could wear the pants without the top. I always hated them but have a sewing job. Now putting some belt loops on the pants. It's a little cooler with just your skin and I'm as black as these Italians. Guess this country is like Dakota it looks nice in the spring but its beginning to be very brown and dry looking. The grass isnt green even and the stubble fields dont have any new seeding them them peeking thru. Some of my friends flew to Naples yesterday and enjoyed it very much. Went over Vesuvious hope to get a chance to go myself soon. I came thru there once but didnt see much nice so should like to see some of the pretty spots. It's nice of them to take us over, most of the fellows have been working
