Saving...
July 15, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: Here it is, half of July gone already, how fast time seems to fly by. Dont know whether it's old age creeping on me or if it's just the idea of keeping occupied all the time. It's hot again, would sure make the Iowa corn grow but its more like Nebraska weather, when you wash out any clothes or have a helmet full of water standing in the sun the moisture evaporates very fast. I usually get a hot bath by setting a can of water in the sun and it's actually almost too hot to wash in. To get cold water I often put a canteen in my ship and when it comes down it's like ice. There are always ways of utilizing what one has to advantage. Got your letter with the clippings in it about the bank fire that was a shame hope they can get materials to fix it up nice. Sure is maddening to think of all the good material & supplies which have to go into war when they could be such an improvement and of so great a use elsewhere. [illegible] is quite a weather prophet, thats the way things like that work. Every farmer I guess expects it to rain when he gets hay down or bundles ahead to be shocked up. Glad you got to see [Ki?] & Claude I'll bet their youngest was as glum as could be and talkative as a fence post. Say Myrttle S. must be getting to be a chunky little lady, you know I havent seen her for years, dont know when was the last time. Wonder if Twin Lakes have filled in since we saw them last, there wasn't much water there then as I remember. Do the [Ukina's?] go there because they like
