Saving...
July 12, 1944 Italy Dear Dad & Mom & Grandmother: Not so busy today, that's the way with this work you work like the dickens for awhile and then there is a lull. Answered several letters today which I have owed for a long time. Felt kind of punk today from the shots I took yesterday they always make me a little under the weather. At least they only come every six months thats a consolation. Must salvage a pair of shoes tomorrow Ive a pair which are about shot seems as tho I'm harder on shoes than I ever was before Cant see why for they seem like good durable ones. Got a couple of real old letters today over a month old dont know where they could have been all this time. Also got one from the church and a V-mail one from you. Was glad to get them all. Had a busy afternoon sorting our nuts, bolts screws, washers, etc. being a scotchman I save all that stuff and it very often comes handy. When all other sources fail I can usually find what I need in my junk box. Poor Mrs. [Rhude?] must be having a bad time of it, she's been sick quite a long time. She is lucky to have the girls to help her. That Walt must have a whopping big garden again this year, dont see how he finds time to get it all done. Nothing to write about tonight, think Ill experiment with this letter and send it free just to see how much longer than air or V mail to get there. Love Johnny
