Saving...
July 13, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: Received a V-mail letter from you today mailed the third, thats coming thru pretty fast. Wish they would all come like that. I'm glad you'd heard of Red. I was thinking about him only yesterday. Wrote to him a long time ago but as yet hadnt heard from him. Expect things are pretty tough where he is. I think this letter must have passed some because I didnt know about the fire at the bank, nor Ben [Winks?], what about him was he killed, wounded or what? Wonder if Bob ever got my last letter. I sent it to San Francisco and I guess he's been on the jump ever since. Sorry to hear about lightning striking the heifer in the pasture, reckon Pop is a good enough farmer to say it's the best one of the bunch. Expect there was insurance covering it tho. No, I never noticed anything from the blood I gave. Thought perhaps I might feel a little weak but I didn't. Think one good meal and I had it all back. My blood type can give to all the others I think they said and its extra good, high count or something. I think all the blood the Red Cross gets is made into plasma. I noticed in our paper a few weeks ago that they had given over a million gallons of blood. That would make quite a lake. This is pretty short but Im getting very sleepy. Love Johnny
