Saving...
July 19, 1944 Italy Dear Dad & Mom & Grandmother: Got busy and missed a couple of days but will try and scratch off a line or two this noon while I'm waiting for the others to return from chow. Guess I'm getting Dad's old habit of eating and hurrying right back to the job. Had P.X. rations yesterday had the best assortment of things theyve had so far, had powder and laundry soap two things which we couldnt get before. They do very well to get as much stuff as they do I think and we are never held up on the price of things. Sent two of my blankets to be laundered yesterday thats the first time in over two years theyve been washed and Im glad its getting done. Theyve been aired and the dust shaken out of them regularly but you can imagine how they would be. Aunt [Jennie?] wrote me a nice letter which I received yesterday, she's certainly had a busy time with company this past year hasnt she, but I expect she's enjoyed having her family with her. Also got one from you yesterday and two today, written from the first to the seventh of July. Am sorry to hear about Mrs Kents death, she's another of my oldest friends, was nice she wasnt ill long. That does leave Florence with her hands full looking after the farm all alone but she's no doubt capable enough to manage very well. Must write to Mrs. Lynch, again, sorry she's in the hospital, this hot weather wouldnt be a good time to be in there, or maybe that would be a good place to keep cool and take it eay. Not a place I'd care to go however
