Saving...
July 22, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: Will write a bit as I have a few minutes to myself. As usual there is nothing to write about, we do the same thing or very near it every day. I was elected on the committee in charge of our service club to represent our section, wasnt at the meeting to protect myself so was railroaded. We have a nice club and it seems to be running smoothly, only time I've found the chance to go in it is after my mail & visit the barber. They are planning one night a week of bingo, perhaps some dances and other recreation. Had to stop long enough to empty our trash barrel, we haul it away a couple of times a week and it seems as tho it is always full of junk. We have inspections of our [illegible] just as we did in the states. Gen. Montgomery once said, we'll win this war if the paper holds out. Guess there has to be a lot of red tape to any thing as big as the army but I sure dont like it. There is a breeze coming up which is surely welcome. I've been sweating until this paper is limp where my hand rests on it. Notice a lot of thistle seed floating around in the air so they should have a good crop next year. Should stop writing and shave, my whiskers surely grow well this warm weather. Think the water I have setting out is plenty warm by now. Will never use up all the razor blades I have if I dont shave often. We can get a pack here every two weeks if we need them. Tonight we can get a coke which should go pretty well. We have a radio in our mess hall now and we can get American music. It's funny but all the pieces they play are new and I'd never heard them before.
