Sat. 2.30 pm. Camp Cody N.M. Dearest Folks at Home. Nothing doing this afternoon for me until 3.15 when I go on guard for the first time since we left Grinnell. We had inspection this morning as usual and our squad passed all right even if it is No. 13. And I feel pretty lazy because of doing nothing. Everybody is well and feeling fine and dandy. It isn't so hot now. And the nights are awfully cold compared to the day temperature. We have been digging trenches the past week. Dad, I never thought my trade would come handy in the army but it sure does there. I'd rather do that than drill for the Company is divided
