May 1, 1944 Dear Mother, A couple of the missing letters, those sent by regular mail, arrived yesterday. We weren't able to mail letters for a few days, so I have lots to tell you. I think it will have to be by installments, though, as I'm so busy that when I get back to my room I have to think of bed pretty soon. The living arrangements are swell. The hospital is a new one - only a few years old. It is single-storied and spread out in ramps, with roofed runways all over. Because it is new, the trees are still small and the lawns not well established. The nurses quarters, where we live, consist of several long buildings with a roofed ramp along the front doors and back doors That open onto a back yard stretch. There's a big room for our bicycles just off the back yard. Down the buildings run halls, with double & single rooms on either side. They are nicely furnished and all is centrally heated.
