up to a dollar or so is OK. In the rayon mesh a soft, rather loose feeling mesh looks best. You are exactly right in what you said, and I know I shall like it very much. Too bad it has been so cold at home. It is coolish here, but spring was very early and they say the winters are not cold, but damp. At any rate, we have warm rooms and that is a break. The decoration in the bathroom & kitchen sound good. I don't believe I'll need any magazines, as we get lots from London. I think New Yorker is among them. I was so sorry to hear about the Fox barn. I always liked it a lot, and it had so many things in it that I remembered. I wonder if it killed the old apple tree. [note in margin: It burned down from a bonfire] I wrote last Wednesday. Since then we've been spending most of our time cleaning and supervising detail men in cleaning. The whole hospital is going through throes of inspections and moppings and window washings. Thursday night Joy and I went over to the mess hall about ten and ate chocolate ice cream that Capt. Carney, the sanitation officer, had made illegaly. He is lots of fun. Then we were warmed up to it and ate roast pork & coffee the boys in the kitchen gave us. We brought home a sack of powdered milk, which we add to the instant chocolate. It is
