May 16, 1944 Dear Mother, Just a short one tonight as I have none to answer and not much to report. Yesterday we got the library and lounge furniture moved back, and it looks very nice. Today three different inspecting officers dropped in and all agreed it was lovely. Lt. Hudder, the Executive officer, stayed to play ping pong, Capt. Carney stayed to visit and Capt. Decker just stayed. We got two new detail men full time and they are a great improvement over the first. One has a college degree and is quite a lad. Last night we were so tired that Capt. Carney took Jay & me out and concocted us some drinks. We just got home when we had an alert of a raider near by, so we didn't get too much sleep. That was the second night in succession we've had to get up, dress and report to duty stations to help move patients, etc. We have it down to a routine now, as in London. If you should see a fruit cake anywhere around, they come well and would be much enjoyed. Also, our stock of instant chocolate is diminishing. I made a poster today for an open house we are giving the nurses & officers next Sunday. I also cut out and pinned covers for the
