Saving...
He calls us all by our first names. One of the officers, Capt. Carney, says he is an executive in the Eastman Kodak Co. and gets two hundred a month from them while in the army. He has a chance for a rating but says he loves the Red Cross and would rather stay with us. When he came to us, a few days ago, he said just to tell him what I do, that he wasn't supposed to think but now he is practically planning the weekly program. "Don't worry", says he, and pats me on the head. Our tea today was a great success. We must have had about a hundred people - nurses, officers, and future volunteer Englishwomen. I didn't make connections tonight with the English fellow, and was just as well satisfied as I was tired. I was late in going to the gate and didn't wait around at all. He might have been moved out too. So we played chess, cribbage and casino. I liked the two little cosmetic bags. Now I'm well stocked. Love, Helen P.S. Johnnie and I are going on our little jaunt tomorrow afternoon and come back Tuesday afternoon.
