May 24, 1944 Dear Mother, The second large package came while Johnnie and I were on our little trip. It came perfectly and I was delighted with the contents. the cold cream didn't melt on run; the peanut brittle was just like new, and the bars were delicious. The stockings, which didn't look very good to me in Washington, are now precious. The little packet of chocolate had sifted out into them a little bit, so that I expect hungry looks when I wear them. We moved our craft shop today to the rooms adjoining the lounge and library and now everything is perfect. J. and I also fixed up our room and the addition of a swiped chair makes it lovely. She is sitting in it now, thinking. Johnnie and I had a swell time in London. We sightsaw one night with two of the other nurses. I stayed at a special Red Cross club where we don't pay and where you can have breakfast in bed, be called when you choose and live a life of luxury. The next day we met for breakfast, saw the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, and then had lunch at Claridges(?). Then we went to the shop where I got your wedgewood and Johnnie got a couple of small pieces. The collection is almost gone. It was the wedgewood family collection.
