June 2, 1944 Dear Mother, I got your nice fat letter yesterday, enclosing the one from Fran. Yours was a number eighty three. There has been sort of a lull in mail, so I'm expecting a big bunch, and some packages, too, I hope. Only two of the large ones have arrived so far, and more of the new series of chocolate and drink. I conferred with Jay, and we decided we liked the alternating idea very much. Could you try a packet of marshmallows now and then, or are they too heavy? Has Betty Haas changed to Jean? I reached that conclusion from your letter. I'm so glad she could get there. You might wait a bit on the pop corn till I see how that which is coming works out. We are making a popper. The flowers grew wild. The (gorse?0 was a magnificient sight all over the mountains and the woods were full of these wild hyacinths, anemones and snow drops. I've never seen a more delightful country. My finances sound fine. It pays to get out of the country doesn't it? Has the extra hundred I sent home out of loose cash arrived yet?
