Saving...
June 7, 1944 Dear Mother, Today I got two nice packets, one of plain chocolate and one of Vita-chocolate. Thanks a lot. Johnnie and Jay and I were lying on a blanket back of the barracks when they arrived, so we each had one of the small vita-ones. They are very good. Today we all had a day off, but couldn't get off the post, so we loafed around here. The invasion aircraft with their lovely stripes were particularly interesting to watch. Out favorite P-38, who always has given us a couple of zooms before going on home, was crazier than ever today. He turned up this morning all decked out in action stripes and came so low four or five times that he pulled the doors of our rooms shut. Tonight he was back again, having put in a busy day, no doubt. Lucy and Johnnie have just accepted our invitation to play bridge tonight, so I have about half an hour to get the junk off my bed that has accumulated there during the day. D-Day was surprisingly calm - we were interested, but have apparently lost the ability to get very much excited, now
