my good leather scissors, trying to cut out metal paratroop badges for their caps, one who was sawing off the end of his crutch, one who was mending his blouse where it got torn by flak, one who was learning string knotting and about ten who were just bothering me. I work in the shop from 1:30 - 3:30 getting stuff fixed for the wards and have an interested audience about three deep at the window. When it gets so I'm handing stuff out the window more than I'm working, I give up and invite them in. Last night Jay sent out an S.O.S. She had sacks and sacks of green peas to shell by hand, So Polly & her roommate and I went over and shelled from 6:30 - 11:30. We had enough for the wards then & the kitchen boys were so grateful they fed us delicious steaks, bread & butter & coffee. Ted cooked the steaks.
