July 6, 1944 Dear Mother, I'm making up for my short lapse by letters two days in succession. I've had a busy day. I had five volunteers and a detail man running errands and helping, so it was fairly profitable as well as busy. The shop was jammed with men, all doing different things. An infantry unit gave us a billiard table and some of its men were here putting it up in the lounge. We were also getting the lounge ready for the Brain Trust radio program tonight. While I was down there Capt Ptacek stopped in at the office and left me a note, saying he still wanted to go boating or pubbing, and did I remember him from the dance. I was sorry to miss him, as I could have invited him to our special dance Saturday on the occasion of the first anniversary of the activation of the unit. On my way to eat, I stopped by the lab and gave a pint of blood. It was like a social call, as Capt Carvey took it and held my hand and Capt Kravitz hovered around, and Lt. Sullivan. They brushed off the volunteer ladies who do it and did it themselves. I visited with a lab assistant who was our detail for one
