July 18, 1944 Dear Mother, I got two letters from you today and one from Louise Bratschi in Newfoundland and one from Juliette in New Guinea. Quite an assortment! Yours were hundred and two and three. By the way, I thought you were going to start again at one. We've had a bit of more summery weather just lately, but still sleep under a blanket or so. And I don't put the hot water bottle too far away. Mary's first box of Hersheys came yesterday in perfect shape and they are most popular. I'll write her in the next day or so. I haven't heard anything more from Capt. [Ptacek?] since his note. I imagine he is very busy. No, I didn't lose any patients on the steamer trip. In fact, they picked up a girl on the way so we were more numerous than when we started. They are rare! We take ten and go alone, of course. On some tours, dances and plays we take more by far. They are very nice and so appreciative that they aren't often any
