July 23, 1944 Dear Mother, I hate to take the time from my interior decorating, but feel that I should make a few remarks about the delightful box (unnumbered) that came last night. I think the material is beautiful, and everyone raves about it. Do you remember the burnt orange flower that was rather prominent in it? Well, I found a ball of burlap that just matched is in the craft shop, so traded some old print we had been using for some of it. We needed material for "ditty bags" and had lots for rugs. We now have bedspreads of the burlap, a desk top of it, top to a little book cupboard and to our dresser. The "skirts" of the tall dresser and the book cupboard, and the top of our bedside table are of the glazed print. The effect is wonderful. On our desk is an earthen pot of bright scarlet dahlias, dwarf and big tweedy raggedy ones, from Lady Willert. All the items in the box were nice.
