August 11, 1944 Dear Mother, In spite of very good resolutions about food in packages as set forth in my last letter, I was very much pleased with numbers three and five, which came today. Number four came some time ago, I believe. The tongue, sardines and potted meat will embellish several bicycle picnics, as did the earlier smoked cheese. The air mail stationery was very welcome. I'm using this just for your letters now, as I'm nearing the end. The bars are very good and, woe is me, will not last too long! The cookies are very good and hardly broken. The nuts will replenish my depleted stock. Very nice indeed - the whole thing. I do wish you wouldn't put too much effort into shopping for one a week though, as it must be irksome sometimes and hard to find boxes, etc. I also got letter thirteen and showed the clipping to Eddie, who was interested. Yes, I see both him and Col. Dyke almost daily. I visited with the latter
