August 19, 1944 Dear Mother, Three nice letters and six little packages to answer! The gumdrops like you sent before, the new round kind, the name tapes, the choclettos and the Argentine chocolate [cone?] were welcomed duly. Since I wrote in desperation about our supplies, I've given a couple of items to each of several volunteers who've been particularly nice to me. That hat relieved things and now the last few days it's been cooler & we've had more company, so all is well. Don't bust a [tug?] gathering things, but send a box when it is convenient and you want to. I need more bath salts, by the way. Don't send anything that is scarce or that you need. In a year's absence I've lost touch with the marketing situation completely. This evening so far Joyce, Helen C., Winnie (one of the nurses), Nellie and Johnnie have been in. We expect Polly at any moment. We divided the people we thought might come in and I was to scowl at half of them and Jay at half.
