Saving...
August 25, 1944 Dear Mother, I haven't a letter to answer, but a nice box, the sixth numbered one and a card, the cute one with the blushing girl on it. I don't know where number five is, but number six was in good condition and very nice. The cheese is almost gone, as we had it tonight with some Melba toast Jay got in a box today. It was very good indeed. The Vienna sausages I have stored for a rainy day. Such a one occurred when I had my permanent Wednesday. I missed lunch, so ate the luncheon tongue, and enjoyed it a lot. I was glad to get the air mail stationery. It is nice and compact and this isn't far from gone. I think I'll use up odds and ends so if I'm moving around I'll have the new kind to take. I'm sorry I took your letter seriously if you didn't mean it. It came when I was at low ebb and quite humorless. I count on your letters to cheer me up and to think that you would be worrying over such a silly thing annoyed me quite out of proportion to the cause. I'm much less driven now,
