Oct 7, 1944 Dear Mother, Just a hodge-podge note tonight as I'm tired from the Saturday night party in the lounge. I was in charge of it tonight, and it was packed. The one at the officers club had no appeal for me after that so I've had a hot bath and changed my bed and am going to sleep soon. Box number eleven and letter thirty four came a day or so ago. My, how nice! I love the box of Jalva and the good cheese and cheese crackers. Also the candy peanuts. I've read all the clippings & letters and Iowans, too. Interesting. By the way, Jay and I played some casino the night the packages came. If I won I was to ask her husband for anything I wanted and if I lost, I was to ask you for another package of Jalva for her. I lost, so please, will you send me another package of Jalva? I had more fun on my way home from Glasgow. I guess my letter stopped there didn't it? First I sat with two very interesting and pretty American civilian girls who are technicians with the Army somewhere and had been on leave in Scotland on
