Saving...
sort of a girl who lives in the village. We sewed and visited. They left & we went to bed in a huge room with twin low, soft beds. Um! We slept till 9, when the maid called us and we went down to fried eggs, homemade jam, etc for breakfast. Then we went with Mrs. [Brodtman?] house-to-house calling on her victory stamp rounds (like Betty's bonds). It was so much fun to meet all the people along the street and visit with them and admire their needlework, their cats and dogs and their children. The centuries-old houses and lovely inside, all big fireplaces and copper fenders and chimney corner seats and big beams and modern bathrooms. We had a nice walk down the footpath with Sybil, whom we met on the way. Mrs. [Brodtman?], who is quite elderly, stayed with some friends while Sybil took us to see the church and ruins. Another castle blown up by Cromwell, like Kenilworth. Then Sybil left us and we had lunch at the Swan Inn, a very old and cosy one. Then back to Mrs. Jordan and she and her thirteen year old daughter Pamela went to Burford with us. We visited the old, old church there - 13th century, I think.
