Saving...
tax correction November 30, 1944 Dear Mother, We're just back (Jay & I) from a delightful evening at the Goddards. We were picked up about seven by Mr. Goddard in front of the hospital. We visited by the fire, drank port, then had coffee and delicious home baked things - cheese straws, sausage rolls, tiny mince pies and shortbreads. They are both lots of fun. They have a nine year old girl Jean and a sixteen year old son Jeffrey. He is in boarding school in town. I'm invited there for tea, a Christmas carol service & drink after, the 10th of December. Then Jay & I are invited to a dance they are giving at the country club in January. We're also going to take our pop corn over and do it in their fireplace. Mr. Goddard is manager of a large motor car company here. He promises to produce a corn popper from our blueprints. Yesterday I had the afternoon off. We took pictures of the rabbit at noon as it was sunny. It just isn't winter at all - occasionally chilly, but flowers still blooming and grass green. The holly is gorgeous and the chrysanthemums lovely. The roses even bloom reservedly. Only the shortness of the daylight betrays the season. I went to town later and browsed in book shops. There are wonderful books in every language. I picked up a few more childrens' books for Pam and maybe for Janice Mallett (daughter of neighbors, Don & Fay Mallett).
