Saving...
(In margin: Battle of Bulge casualties) I won't have to do that sort of thing often, but there wasn't any help for it under the circumstances. Jay is wandering around the room putting things away. I asked her a question and she whispered the answer because she didn't want to disturb my letter-writing. Well-trained isn't she? I must tell you about Johnnie. She got a forty-eight hr. pass unexpectedly, so we told her to go out to Minster Lovell and gave her a list of people to stay with. Mrs. Brodtman wasn't home, so she went to Mrs. Jordan and knocked on the door and said, "I'm Johnnie". Mrs. Jordon took her in and fed her and entertained her and took her to the village and the ruins. Then they ate again and went to Mrs. B's, as she'd come home. They all had dinner there, Johnnie stayed all night and had breakfast in bed, chicken dinner with eight other guests called in for the occasion and came home. She's entranced, and said anyone would think she was their long-lost cousin. We're meeting Mrs. B. in London the seventeenth and taking her to lunch and a movie. We're going in Monday night and stay with the Janners. Jay's brother-in-law is making luncheon reservations at Claridges for Tuesday and we'll go to a play or concert or both. We also have to let Bobby Brodtman take us somewhere and Harry Sears. Busy little bees, we. Yes, I know about Herb. We've been corresponding. Hope I can see him sometime. Jay has reached the point in her reconstruction where she has pulled her locker out from under the bed and found the junk I've been putting on top of it - one thing
