is a Chinese checkerboard and she wants to play right now. Maybe she isn't so well trained after all. Helen C. is coming Tuesday to get her belongings. I wish she were coming to stay, as we certainly could use her. She was transferred to another hospital. Yes, the boys made stenciled Christmas cards. They took our canteens because they needed them to make up a shortage in Europe caused by destruction of a warehouse, I think. Jay thinks they were potatoes in the pans in the kitchen. No Ted in the picture. When he served me tonight I told him you [illegible] him in the picture and he was pleased. He put back the first slice of ham and gave me a bigger one. I'm glad the bicycle seat cover situation is cleared up. I love the fuzzy one especially and will write Betty soon. I have several pressing letters, but thought this the most pressing. Dora is an army physiotherapist like Polly. What a shame you had such a time with the [illegible] tablecloth. So much extra work. I've thanked them for all but the box of chocolates. I wanted to spread things out a bit. Yesterday I saw the most beautiful spectacle I ever hope to see. The sky was blue, with a slight haze. Along in the morning there was a steady hum, but I didn't notice till the fellows came in the shop and told me to come out. High, high overhead the whole sky was full of bombers, each leaving a wide, fluffy vapor trail. They went parallel, so that it looked like comb marks in curves and lines all over the sky.
