Saving...
February 18, 1945 Dear Mother, I'm afraid it's at least a week since my last letter, but I'm sure you'll forgive me when I go over the days -- but later for that. Just now I'll answer the nice bunch of letters, the last of the old series plus nine, ten and eleven of the new. Also the pretty Valentine and packages twenty-nine, thirty and thirty one. A pretty good haul, I think. The packages were elegant, and we love all the crackers and good things. We are going to take the marshmallows to Whitehall next time we go, or to Mrs. Goddards, to toast them. The candy was very good, and I especially like the home made ones labeled, quite incorrectly, failures. Maybe the trip improved them, but the chocolate ones especially are delicious. I think I have a good supply of paper now, what with Christmas and all, so won't need any more for some months. The PX has started having it again now too. I'm very glad you put in another little calendar. Jay wheedled the first one away from me and the ones here have the days going the wrong way for me. Sideways, as it were. Could you send me more muffin mix? It was a huge success at Mrs. Goddards, as I guess I told you. I had very nice letters from Kay Mallett and Marg. I am glad you gave Marg the etching. She seems to like it a lot. I think Ted is going to marry a girl here. He almost married one, but has had a formal engagement, parties and all, to another one now. Quite a lot of the fellows marry English or French girls rather than wait. It is going to create some interesting problems.
