Picture - Polly Jay & I last summer on a picnic March 6, 1945 Dear Mother, I have a flock of letters and two packages to "answer". First, however, let me tell you about the hectic last few days. That will also explain why the gap in letters. Jay and I were peacefully sleeping Saturday morning when the phone rang for her. It was her day off and very late morning, so we were annoyed. That was a small matter, though, when we found out what it was for. She was being transferred to another hospital and was supposed to report Sunday or Monday. She chose Monday, and started packing. Col. Dyke didn't know anything about it till she told him and would have insisted that her orders be revoked if she had wanted it. Her working conditions have been pretty unhappy, though, and she had asked once before for a change, as she said she'd rather go. The other two dieticians are very unpleasant; one is a cruel, cold type of girl whom no-one likes and the other is a very silly young thing with irritating mannerisms. So she's gone and gosh, but it's lonesome! She went by car and I rode down with her and came back after supper. It is about forty miles from here, but the train connections are bad. Whitehall is between us, and we plan on reunions there, the twenty fifty of the month, for
