March 11, 1945 Dear Mother, To come back to that remarkably irritating thorn in the flesh, the income tax, I've sent the top blank to Des Moines, as directed. The other I'm enclosing for you. I don't know anything about any bill, and I sent you the only blank I received. The computation was correct, as I corrected it and should be $249.28. Now, does that settle things? If not, refer to my previous letter on the subject, as to what I'd suggest. Now, for more important affairs. Tell Betty that "brother George" [note in margin: George Ritson, Mrs. Eric Wilson's brother] is going to be one of my best customers, I think. I was talking to him night before last. He'll probably have time for several projects while his leg is in traction. Everything is OK, tell her. I'm just back from Whitehall. I went out last night and met Jay there. We had dinner. Mrs. Busby was there and Bobby was home as usual from London. After a delightful night's sleep I had breakfast in bed (fresh egg). Then we took the dogs for a walk across the fields and along the hedgerows. The violets are in gloom -- sweet smelling ones. I'll stick one in. The fruit trees and hawthorns are starting to bloom and the scarlet quince is gorgeous on the grey walls of the houses. When Bobby & Jay & Roger Busby (aged 7)
