Saving...
the car stop for me to come home with her, as it has to return right by Whitehall after the meeting. Jay, I suppose, will hitchhike home. She was so triumphant at her success last time, getting a ride to her own door on the first GI truck that passed. I expect that will hold till she has to hike seven miles or so in the rain some dark night carrying a bed roll, or something like that. I haven't heard from you for weeks. I'm getting used to it by now, but that doesn't mean I like it. I had a nice birthday note from Harvey Gibson, the Red Cross Commissioner for Great Britain. Very nice of him to take the pains. I'm going to let you take care of our contribution to the Red Cross from that end. It will help whoever is collecting, and you can take out of my salary check whatever you feel like giving. I think it is darned well used, and that is something to be able to say looking at it from the inside. There is a minimum of overhead, and everyone tries to see that it goes where it will do the most good. Time for bed. I'm glad I've had you thirty four years and hope I'll have you as many more! Love, Helen
