April 5, 1945 Dear Mother, Box thirty seven came with the lovely poncho and the delicious pears. I think the poncho will be just the thing to take when riding in this often-damp climate, and I hope it will last for football games as well. The pears were excellent; where did you find them? I hadn't seen any for several years. We used the rusk immediately. Joyce had a can of chicken we used on it one night and we had Polly's anchovies on it another time. The bars were good, too, and came in good shape. Thanks a lot. Nellie is back; she got here yesterday after almost seven weeks at home. She looks well and rested and was very anxious to get back here. She found it pretty tame for a steady diet and was afraid she'd miss out on the finish. We are taking things much easier now and are having at least two days off a week. Joyce has been urging me to take extra ones whenever I want as I have had quite a lot of work during the winter. I'm going to London with Johnnie tomorrow night or Saturday morning for a couple of days. We want to go out
