gas however escapes from the muzzle. Some of it goes down a small opening which is bored near the muzzle and strikes on the face of a piston. This piston is forced backward and thus the "slide" is forced backward--being attached to the piston. This slide, in moving to the rear, operates the mechanism by which the empty shell is thrown and at the same time throws a live round into the chamber. All this is done automatically. Oh it is a very interesting study, I assure you. We have handled four different makes of guns now: The Colt, Lewis, Vickers, and The Browning (heavy type). The Browning is the best machine gun in the world
