Saving...
April 23, 1945 Dear Mother, One of the girls says there is mail at headquarters for us and I am hoping I'll find some there tomorrow. Yesterday Mary Jackson and I went out to Versailles by train and had a good time. Everything is quite run down and all the tapestries, best paintings, furniture, and chandeliers are away in southern France. The fireplaces are all plastered up to protect them. In spite of everything it is still lovely. At noon today I ran into a couple more girls I know. Ruth Strong, who was with a unit that staged with us in the States, is in from near here for reassignment. Nellie Vicksburg, [note in margin: See note on back] who was with me in Washington for a couple of weeks, is on leave from her job. She had the luck to get in a Belgian chateau somewhere around Liege, Ciney, I think she said. Bertha Heetland was staying quite near our hotel, but expected to be moving on before long. I think I'll call Herb again tomorrow, now that my upset is over. At least I'll say for it that it slowed me down nicely and gave me a rest. We just got back from an exhibition of fashions, both dolls and mannequins. It was very nice. Time for bed now. Love, Helen
