Ciney, Belgium May 14, 1945 Dear Mother, First a quick round-up of my activities the last few days and then I'll answer the twelve letters I got from you in the last day or so. They are thirty five to forty seven with forty and forty one yet to come. There wasn't too much celebrating around here about the end of this part of the war. We were all too tired and there are still too many problems left. For us (Red Cross) when the time comes for the hospital set-ups to change more, it will be a matter of choosing whether to go with one of the occupation armies, either in Germany or at a rest center somewhere back here, to ask to go home, or to go to the CBI, or to ask release over here and rest a bit before coming home. I'd need to get rested up a bit before I'd feel capable of choosing. I wouldn't want to commit myself to anything very long without some time at home first, I think. Friday Lucy Adams (Rec. worker) and I went to Namur on the mail truck & got some nice gifts. I'll be sending a box home soon with things for people. You'll
