5 had to go way out to the U.S. billeting office to get a paper & then back to the British town mayor (Brussels is British-controlled) who gave us rooms at a lovely hotel (Palace) on the main square & meal tickets. We also got meal tickets for the U.S. army officers mess, so we'd have a choice. We ate in the hotel at noon; it was full of very dignified British officers with lots of medals. Then we lay down in our room and slept till dinner time, wasting the whole lovely, sunny afternoon. We walked around a little after dinner and then saw a movie. Monday we shopped, ate at the U.S. mess, shopped some more, ate again, went to the officers club and danced and visited a bit, got bored and went out to get a street car, got picked up
