Saving...
The Rhine and the castles are lovely, and the hills crowd up around Heidelberg. We could see the trenches, and Jim was especially proud of the bridges he had destroyed personally. He likes bridges best; isn't it going to be hard for him to pursue his career when he gets home? That will be after the Japanese are finished, though, as he has chosen to go to China. The field were many-colored, and were like the crayola messes I used to make--melting them and twisting them together. The big PW camps were amazing and the people looked like ants in a disturbed hill. We stayed up about three hours. Then when we got back the bomber dumped us at headquarters before going on to park. We had dinner with Jim (steak). Then we went to his house in the village, had a drink or so, admired his garden, and went over to a squadron dance. It was a brawl so we left early and he brought us home in a jeep about one o'clock. What a day! Love, Helen P.S. The hospital gets rid of all patients tomorrow.
