Saving...
3 months before they came to Belgium. We got a truck to go in, and I enjoyed the ride. We had lunch at the field first. Friday night we just fooled around. Saturday night I saw Herb Smith for a brief visit before going out again. Sunday night I went to a movie with a Sgt. named Bob Jones. Monday night I took the sleeper to Brussels and learned a Belgian drinking song from a British major on the train. I came on home yesterday afternoon. I found a nice bunch of letters and two nice packages--52 & 53. I'm going to take the smokey cheese, prunes & stationery with me--also the raisins. We've already eaten the cheezits chocolate cookies and Jordan almonds with a quart of champagne last night. We also ate sardines and rum candy. Why we don't die is a mystery to me. The dates are lovely & fresh. I'm going to give Marcel, our Belgian janitor the food I can't pack. I took a big sack (that rubberized one) to Mme. Houis and left it with the concierge as they were on vacation. I know they'll enjoy the things a lot. There was hot chocolate, a can of sardines, some cheese, the little fruit cake we got in the mess hall & some candy.
