Saving...
along the sea, dancing here or there, where ever the music sounded best. All the big hotels with their outdoor dance floors are reserved for the army officers, so it is like a big fair. We went back to the Miramar for the floor show and finally took the 2 AM truck back to the Provençal, despite furious opposition from our escorts. They couldn't come because the bus didn't come back; it was crowded and a very nice colonel asked me to sit on his knee to ride home. As I sat there he introduced himself very gravely, as well as another colonel somewhere behind me and we had a nice visit on the way home. This morning we slept late. After lunch we put on our suits. I put on over mine a white polo shirt and the navy overalls I wore nutting, with navy sox and white shoes. We took the truck up to Eden Roc to swim and sun. It is beautiful. The swimming is from crags and the water is blue green and so clear you can see everything. Kathleen couldn't swim today, so we got a couple of mattresses (?) & settled her to sun. I went down the ladder and played around with some of the fellows.
