2 is a very good player. We took the 4 o'clock truck back to the Provençal and came to the tea dance on the terrace. They had lemonade & doughnuts. Then he stayed to dinner with me and we danced some between bites. The reason we hadn't gone sailing as planned was that for the first time it blew up choppy waves and they wouldn't let the boats out. Incidentally, on the truck coming out we had a couple of guys who were very amusing. I don't know whether I told you before or not, but your first two days here you are a restee. Then for the next three you are a character. The rest of your leave you are a creature. These were creatures. One was a full colonel and the other a major. They drank a lot of cognac undiluted between Cannes and the Provençal, a matter of 20 minutes. When they got here the col. was a 2nd Lt. and the major a warrant officer. Later we met them and they had gone swimming and forgotten to take their shorts off. To return to the subject, Col Booth had to leave after dinner, so I wandered out and sat down in the lobby and visited with a nice captain (named Janer) who was sitting there with a bottle in his hand. He became more and more uneasy and finally said he had been supposed to have a date at 8:30 and it was 9:30 now and would I save his life and join
