Thursday I rode over to Nice right after lunch to see Helen Crum, but she was off duty & not to be found, so I came back. I hitched a ride with two captains in a jeep instead of waiting for a bus. Then I went into Cannes to make a reservation for a boat ride, had iced coffee with two majors and came home. I ate, took a nap & went down to see what was doing at the dance. I just walked out to the railing when a most delightful tall tanned young lieutenant (engineer) asked if I were dancing & so I joined him. His name is Milburn & he comes from San Diego. He's a very, very good dancer & more fun. He's got shoulders like a prize fighter & nice slim hips. The floor was too crowded so we went down to another hotel near, the Belles Rives & danced by the water till 1:30. Bob Hope & Jerry Colonna were there at a table, but just sat & watched us all dance. The music got dreamy along at the last, so of course we had to finish off the evening by sitting in the moonlight on a German pill box. He's a honey & I hope I see him again. He is staging at Marseilles too. Today I slept till one. Then I went in & took a boat trip 4 - 6 to an island. I was bored with the captain who sat next to me & didn't
